Driver Shot In Apparent Road Rage Incident

A man shot on Wednesday evening in Cathedral City in what police are calling a road rage incident was in stable condition on Thursday.

Cathedral City police are looking for two suspects who opened fire on the victim’s truck at 10:20 p.m. on Tortuga, just off Date Palm Drive.

Police said Joshua James Caldwell, 21, was driving a female passenger north on Date Palm Drive at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday when a white SUV occupied by two men drove up and the passenger opened fire on the victim’s vehicle, said Sgt. Carl Wolford of the Cathedral City Police Department.

Caldwell was shot in the left side of his body and crashed into a palm tree on Tortuga Road, he said.

Authorities say the female passenger in the vehicle was hysterical when calling 9-1-1.

It’s still unclear what sparked the altercation.

No weapons were found in the victim’s truck.

Authorities are looking for two adult Hispanic males last seen driving a white SUV.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call police at (760) 770-0303.
