Bicyclist Stabbed In Cathedral City

A man was seriously injured today when he was riding his bicycle and an unknown person ran up to him, pushed him over, stabbed him repeatedly and then ran away.

The victim called the police at 1 a.m. on his cellphone just after the attack on the 31800 block of Sky Blue Water Trail near Ramon Road, said Sgt. Paul Herrera.

The victim told police the suspect caught him by surprise and pushed him off his bike. The suspect yelled some threats and ran away. When the victim picked himself up off the ground, he noticed he was bleeding from his arms and chest, Herrera said.

The victim was rushed to the Desert Regional Medical Center where he was treated for multiple stab wounds. He is in stable condition, the sergeant said.

The suspect is a tall, thin 35-year-old Hispanic man with a goatee. The Cathedral City Police Department asked anybody with information to call (760) 770-0300.
