Asphalt Truck Rolls Over On Interstate 10, Lanes Shut Down
A big rig that overturned today on eastbound Interstate 10 in Banning spilled nearly 20 tons of asphalt, prompting lane closures and injuring the driver.
The crash was reported at 10:12 a.m. on the interstate at Eighth Street, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Beauchene.
The driver, 60-year-old Jorge E. Bernal, lost control of the tractor trailer when the tread on a tire separated, causing the rig to veer onto the right shoulder and overturn, blocking the two, three and four lanes, Beauchene said.
Bernal, a Riverside resident, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a cut to his head, the officer said.
The lanes were closed for about two hours for the clean-up, according to the officer.
