Road Crews Switch Directions On Interstate 10 Construction

Construction crews working on the Ramon Road/Bob Hope overpass project on Interstate 10 decided to swap the weeks the freeway will shut down in each direction.

Kathy Boltz with the California Department of Transportation said westbound Interstate 10 from Ramon Road to Date Palm will now be completely shut down from Monday, September 20 through Thursday, September 23.

Eastbound Interstate 10 will be shut down the following week, Monday, September 27 through Thursday, September 30.

Previous plans had called for the weeks to be reversed.

All closures will take place from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m.

The closures are necessary for construction crews to build structures that will help support the new overpass being built at Ramon Road and Bob Hope Drive.

Detours will take drivers on a course through Cathedral City, using Ramon Road and Date Palm Drive.

Motorists are advised to avoid the construction area if possible.
