Big Rig Fire Shuts Down Highway 101

A big rig caught fire this morning on the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, prompting closure of all lanes in both directions.

The fire and a possible explosion were reported at 3:58 a.m. on the northbound 101 just north of Beaudry Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Fuel spilled and spread across multiple lanes, and some emergency responders were advised not to come on the freeway.

At least one rescue squad had to bring their truck on the freeway at Glendale Boulevard and drive south on northbound lanes.

Information about possible injuries was not immediately available.

The southbound side of the freeway was re-opened at 5 a.m. and there was no word on when the northbound side would be re-opened.
