Child Thrown From Car In Interstate 10 Accident
A child was thrown from a pickup truck and apparently killed as it crashed on Interstate 10 in Palm Springs today, CHP officers said.
The crash was reported at 11:24 a.m. when a yellow pickup driving east slammed into the center divider, sending a child flying out, according to the CHP. The crash was on the four-lane-wide freeway as it approaches Indian Avenue.
A 16-month old child was confirmed dead as a result of the accident, according to the CHP. Investigators said the child was in a child safety seat that wasn’t belted to the seat.
The eastbound lanes were closed for one hour, and some motorists were making illegal U-turns, officers said. At 12:21 p.m. the first and second lanes were opened, dispatchers said, as the coroner arrived and the investigation was ongoing.
The freeway was fully reopened at 1:50, CHP officers said.
