Tram To Stay Closed Extra Week For Maintenance

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway will remain closed an extra week for maintenance.

Crews switching out the 1 3/4-inch steel cables that support the counterweights, which are changed every 12 years, determined that two other cables needed to be replaced, said Rob Parkins, the tramway’s general manger.

The tramway, which is undergoing its annual maintenance, is expected to reopen Oct. 4.

“Since we are already in shutdown for maintenance, it was decided to extend the current closure,” Parkins said. “The safety of our visitors and employees are always at the forefront of decisions such as this.”
