U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector caught a convicted sex offender who is a Mexican national offender on Monday while conducting train check operations at the Highway 111 checkpoint.

Agents said the man had a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and had been previously removed from the United States.

The man, who was later identified as Manuel Enriquez, was one out of five people who were attempting to hide within a train car.
