Fire Crept Close To La Quinta Home

A vegetation fire broke out on Friday behind a home in the La Quinta Cove, but the flames were quickly doused.

The blaze was reported at 11:04 a.m. in the backyard of a home near Avenida Rubio and Avenida Diaz, according to Cheri Patterson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

A sparking power line apparently sparked the fire, Patterson said.

Although it wasn’t the cause, fire officials say yard waste — wood piles and dead leaves — helped fuel the fire.

“We always want to make sure residents have a clean property line, especially around power poles, electric or fire equipment. That just helps mitigate any potential hazards,” said Matthew Kotz with Calfire.
