Two Attacked In Palm Desert Home Robbery

A man suspected in a home invasion robbery today in which two people were assaulted was taken into custody for questioning, but the second suspect got away.

The robbery was reported at 11:03 a.m. in the 42000 block of Iowa Street, near California Drive, said Deputy Melissa Nieburger of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

One of the victims was struck with an unknown object, cut by some broken glass and taken to a hospital, Nieburger said. A woman was also transported to a hospital to be checked out for what were described as minor bruises on her arms.

Their names were withheld.

A man, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken into custody for questioning, but the second suspect was at large, she said.

The two robbers were described as being in their 20s, according to Nieburger.

Page Middle School and Summit High School on Palm Royale Drive in La Quinta, along with Gerarld R. Ford Elementary School in Indian Wells, were placed on lockdown for just under two hours as a precaution, according to Silvia Demalio of the Desert Sands Unified School District.
