Wildfire Crosses U.S. Border Into California

A 500-acre brush fire that injured at least one Mexican firefighter crossed into San Diego County today near the Tecate Port of Entry, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze started Saturday and crossed about a quarter-mile into the United States around 4 p.m. in the Bell Valley area, said Cal Fire’s Mike Mohler.

Cal Fire monitored the fire during the day as it sent up smoke visible in eastern San Diego County, and attacked it with ground crews and aircraft when it crossed the border, Mohler said.

Information on the injured firefighters was not immediately available.
