Mare Recovering After Car Hits Carriage In Palm Springs

A horse-drawn carriage was hit by a car in Palm Springs, but the mare who was pulling it is recovering today.

A car smashed into the carriage just after 10 p.m. at Tahquitz Canyon Way and Calle Encila. Everybody involved was uninjured, including Rosie, a 14- year-old Belgian mare. Her owner was planning a trip to the veterinarian.

“This is one of our babies, and my heart is just being torn out right now seeing her out there hurting,” Diane Schroeder, the buggy driver, told a local newspaper.

The injured horse is one of 12 that pull carriages for the company.
