Two Alleged Gang Members Shoot At Deputies

Two alleged gang members wanted for a weekend drive-by shooting are at large today and investigators are looking for clues.

The shooting was reported around 10 p.m. Friday in the 81000 block of Sirocco Avenue in Indio. Witnesses told deputies two males in a light-colored compact car passed the victims, who were in front of a house and about to leave in a vehicle, said sheriff’s Sgt. Anthony Baur.

The passenger fired several rounds from a handgun as they passed and several more as they drove away, the sergeant said.

A witness followed the suspect’s vehicle and last saw it near Monroe Street and Indio Boulevard. Deputies searched the area, but failed to find them, Baur said.

Nobody was injured, but the victim’s vehicle suffered moderate damage. A forensics team combed the scene and investigators decided the shooting was gang related, the sergeant said.
