Eastbound Interstate 10 Reopens After Asphalt Spill

Both lanes of eastbound Interstate 10 in Coachella were shut down Thursday morning after a vehicle spilled its load of concrete materials, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 10:18 a.m. near the intersection of Interstate 10 and State Route 86. As many as two vehicles crashed in the area a few minutes after the spill, according to the CHP.

The California Highway Patrol reported large boulders scattered on the freeway with a large amount of asphalt, a total of 70 yards of materials.

All traffic had to be diverted to State Route 86 South.

There were no reports of injuries. Crews had to sweep the material off the freeway.

All lanes were reopened around 12:45 p.m.
