Plane From Palm Springs Crashes Onto Vegas Highway
A single-engine plane that departed from Palm Springs International Airport crashed today as the pilot was making an emergency landing west of Las Vegas, an FAA spokesman said.
The plane took off from Palm Springs at 10:18 a.m. Friday morning.
The pilot of the Beechcraft Bonanza told air traffic controllers at 11:38 a.m. that the plane’s engine lost power, said Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The aircraft crashed near state Route 159, about 15 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, and two people on board were taken to a hospital for treatment, Gregor said.
Clark County spokeswoman Jennifer Knight said Friday that two people were taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, including one in critical condition.
The plane is registered to a Las Vegas man, according to the FAA’s website.
FAA inspectors and the National Transportation Safety Board were en route to the scene.
