Man Surrenders After Standoff With Palm Springs Police
A standoff with Palm Springs police ended peacefully Sunday afternoon several hours after a man refused to surrender authorities.
Mger Balabekyan, 25, of Glendale, was wanted on a felony warrant in Los Angeles County for strong arm robbery, said Officer Rhonda Long of the Palm Springs Police Department.
The situation came to and end around 3:45 p.m. when the man finally walked out of the condo at the Desert Vacation Villas on West Vista Chino, and gave himself up.
Police evacuated some of the condos and sent a SWAT unit.
“The SWAT unit deployed a flash bang in the area of the condominium and a male subject surrendered from the condo,” she said, adding that the man was not the suspect.
Police had tried to call the residence, but had outdated telephone numbers. They said they had to resort to a bullhorn to communicate with the man.
Shortly before 3:45 p.m., authorities said the man called police to tell them he was going to surrender. He walked out a short time later, and was taken into custody.
West Vista Chino was re-opened soon after the standoff ended.
No one was injured.
