High Desert Doused With Rain

The high desert transformed into the wetlands as rain poured down Tuesday. Some residents found it refreshing.

“I love it! I love it!” said Vicki White, who twirled in the rain. “We’ve waited too long for this!”

But, Robert Kerr was not “feeling the love” as he toured nearby Pioneertown. Kerr, who was visiting from London, said it felt like he never left home.

“That’s not why I came to California. That’s not why I came all the way here,” he said. “But, I’m sure it’s good for the land here.”

Jesse Alkas, 5, woke up to something other than sunshine, and it was a bit unsettling.

“We saw all four lightning bolts at once,” he said. “I was feeling bad. I had to cover my ears.”

Residents tell News Channel 3 it was a long summer. Getting some rain was a welcome change.

“It poured!” said Pam Hagedorn, of Yucca Valley. “It just poured off our roof after all that. But, we had a blast!”

News Channel 3 reports at least a quarter-inch of rain fell in the high desert.
