Teen With BB Gun Prompts Lockdown At Desert Mirage High School

A juvenile spotted with what turned out to be a BB gun prompted the lockdown of two schools in Thermal today, a sheriff’s deputy said.

The youth was detained shortly after 3 p.m. in the 86100 block of 66th Avenue near Tyler Street, said Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela.

Deputies had received a report of a person on a bicycle with a gun near Desert Mirage High School and Toro Canyon Middle School, Valenzuela said.

The schools went on lockdown as a precaution at the request of the sheriff’s department, according to the Coachella Valley Unified School District.
