Man Shot In Face Expected To Live

A Desert Hot Springs man shot in the face in a car-to-car attack in Thousand Palms was expected to live, a sheriff’s sergeant said today.

Alvaro Colon, 18, was shot in the 32900 block of Monterey Avenue about 6 p.m. Monday, Sgt. David Florez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Florez said Colon’s wound to the face was not life threatening, Florez said, adding that he was being treated at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Investigators believe Colon and his 19-year-old brother, Jose, were driving south on Monterey Avenue from Ramon Road after leaving In-N-Out, when someone in a white compact pulled alongside and opened fire, the sergeant said.

Anyone with more information about the attack was asked to call the sheriff’s department at (760) 836-1771.
