Several Local Races Face Recounts Next Week

Election results were certified by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters last week, but at least some local races face a recount meaning the end of the November election will stretch into December.

On Monday, Ted Merten’s request for a recount will jump into action. Mertens lost a seat on the Indian Wells City Council by 8 votes to Patrick Mullany.

On Tuesday, Ben Godfrey’s request for a recount in the Indio City Council race will be processed. Godfrey lost a city council seat to Sam Torres by 20 votes.

The registrar’s office confirmed to News Channel 3 a recount for county Measure M will take place next Wednesday. The ballot measure posed the question, “Shall Ordinance No. 899, requiring voter approval for increases in public safety employee retirement benefits or decreases in job related pre-retirement death benefits, and allowing decreases in retirement benefits, be adopted?”

Sixty-one-percent approved the measure, thirty-nine-percent did not.
