Makeover Set For Corner Of Palm Desert Country Club

The Palm Desert Country Club is about to get a small make-over. The city purchased a home there in foreclosure and hopes by knocking it down traffic will pass thru the area safer.

The city has decided to demolish the home at the corner of Hovley Lane and Kansas Street. Its been the scene of several accidents over the years with motorists traveling south on Oasis not negotiating the turn onto Hovley and crashing through the backyard wall.

The city is planning to build a vehicle retention basin at this spot that will be filled with granite cobble stones and surrounded by landscaping. But not everyone thinks it’s a great idea.

“I am worried if the speed limit is 55 miles an hour if they hit the wrong side of this hole and the slope it could possibly flip the vehicle,” said Trudie McIntyre who lives next door to the home tagged for demolition.

Back in June, McIntyre submitted a pettition with 175 signatures from Palm Desert Country Club residents asking the city to come up with a different plan. However, the retention basin was approved by the homeowners association board of directors. The demoltion process is scheduled to begin next week.
