Approval On New Palm Desert DMV Office Delayed

Approval of a third Department of Motor Vehicles office for the Coachella Valley, which is meant to relive congestion at the other two offices, was delayed because of the recent storms.

If approved, as expected, the new office would be in Palm Desert.

The Palm Desert Planning Commission was scheduled to vote on the project Dec. 21, but because of the weather, the vote was pushed back to Jan. 18.

The new office, which wouldn’t open until May 2012, near the Cook Street exit of Interstate 10, is meant to relieve congestion at the area’s other two offices in Palm Springs and Indio.

The Indio office was closed until January for renovations, causing longer lines at the Palm Springs office and another DMV office in Banning.
