Three Lost Hikers Rescued Near Mecca
Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies said they faced some tough challenges in rescuing three lost hikers near Mecca on Tuesday night.
The group of three hikers called for help using a cell phone around 5:20 p.m., and explained they were in the Ladder Canyon area in the Mecca Hills.
They told dispatchers they didn’t have blankets or extra clothing.
Sgt. Joe Borja told News Channel 3 the windy conditions made it impossible to launch a helicopter to rescue them.
By 6:45 p.m., all three were led out of the canyon by deputies, and all three were fine.
