Dog Gets Head Stuck in Smudge Pot

A lucky dog is now free, after getting his head stuck in what officers believe was an old smudge pot.

Officer Amy Farrell from Riverside County Animal Services responded to an area near Hemet Friday. It happened just before 2 p.m. on the 45,900 block of Willowbrook Road, that’s just East of Hemet off of Highway 74.

Officer Farrell says she thinks the dog was chasing a mouse or some small critter, when he got his head stuck in the old smudge pot. She was able to free the dog without injury.

Officer Farrell says the dog is 2-years-old. He didn’t have a microchip, but he did have a collar. For now, Officer Farrell and her colleagues have nicknamed the dog “Smokey.” She says the dog is slightly underweight, but otherwise very friendly and playful.

The dog is now being cared for at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Shelter. If you are the owner or know who is, give the shelter a call at (951) 358-7387 to pick up the dog.
