4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits South of Coachella Valley

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck this afternoon in Baja California, but there were no reports of injuries or damage in the Coachella Valley or San Diego.

The quake struck at 3:56 p.m. 10 miles south southeast of Ocotillo, and 25 miles west southwest of El Centro, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS“Did You Feel It?” maps show most of those reporting movement lived in El Centro, where the shaking was light.

No damage or injuries were reported in the San Diego area, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
