Palm Springs Family’s Trip To Egypt Causes Financial Problems

Ron Meier said he has seen better days.

“We’ve gotten excited all the way until now,” he said.

His family has an upcoming trip to Egypt. They’re scheduled to leave March 3.

But, maybe not anymore.

“We’re not really sure who’s going to be in charge of the country,” he said. “The people don’t trust the police. The army’s coming in.”

The family of four, which includes Ron’s mother, sister and brother-in-law, spent $5,000 each for their vacation. But, there’s one reason they haven’t cancelled yet: Their travelers insurance won’t give them a full refund.

“Civil unrest” is not covered by the policy.

The only way to get their money back is if the the touring company they booked with cancels the trip for them.

“It’s deteriorated quite a bit [in Egypt] since then, especially in the past two days,” Meier said. “So, they [touring company] really need to step it up and say, ‘ok, we’re canceling.'”

This will be Ron’s second trip to Egypt. It’s the first time for the rest of his family. Their dream vacation which they have been planning for nine months may turn out to be just that: a dream.
