Power Outage Hits Cathedral City, Palm Springs

A total of 763 customers were without power today due to an electrical outage in Cathedral City and parts of Palm Springs.

Lois Pitter Bruce of Southern California Edison said the affected customers were mostly in northwest Cathedral City. She said power initially went out for about 1,400 customers at 11:54 a.m., but power was restored for about half of them by shortly after noon.

There was no estimate for when all power would be restored, and the cause of the outage was being investigated.

“We’re working to get the power back quickly so we haven’t isolated the specific cause yet,” she said.

The remaining outage was affecting people roughly between Sunny Dunes Road and McCallum Way from San Luis Rey Drive to Avenida El Pueblo.

The earlier power outage bordered Gene Autry Trail on the west, which runs adjacent to Palm Springs International Airport.
