Stagecoach Kicks Off Second Day

The Stagecoach County Music Festival winds up with its second day on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club.

The festival comes on the heels of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and a new event called the Big 4 Festival, a heavy metal concert.

Police made 43 arrests, all for alcohol-related offenses, on the first day of the Stagecoach festival, Indio police Cmdr. Ben Guitron said.

Traffic wasn’t much of an issue, Guitron said. Several arterial roads — Avenue 49 between Hjorth and Monroe streets, Avenue 50 between Madison and Jackson streets and both Hjorth and Madison streets between Avenues 49 and 50 — were closed Saturday, according to Indio city spokesman Jim Curtis.

Backups were likely at Highway 111 intersections with Jefferson and Monroe streets, the Interstate 10 eastbound exits at Indio, and southbound Jefferson, Washington and Monroe streets between the freeway and Avenue 52, Curtis said.

Among the top acts set to perform today are Rascal Flatts and k.d. lang. Rascal Flatts will perform at 9:15 p.m. on the Mane Stage, while lang and the Siss Boom Bang will close the show with their set to begin at 9:35 p.m. on the Palomino Stage.

Carrie Underwood will perform at 7:30 p.m. today on the Mane Stage, preceded by Josh Turner.

Kristofferson was brought in to replace Loretta Lynn, who bowed out due to knee surgery.
