Ceremony Ushers In New College Of The Desert Campus

College administrators and Palm Springs city leaders will hold a sign unveiling ceremony today for College of the Desert?s new state-of-the-art West Valley Campus,

The 11:30 a.m. ceremony at the James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center, 480 Tramview Road, will feature remarks from COD President Jerry Patton and Mayor Steve Pougnet.

The new 119-acre green campus will be located on the northwest corner of Tramview Road and Indian Canyon Drive and will be integrated with existing recreational resources at the Desert Highland Unity Center.

?The West Valley Campus will be one of the most green and clean in the country and will set the gold standard when it comes to educating thousands of students for the next generation of green jobs in our region,? said Mayor Steve Pougnet. ?This is great news for potential students in Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley looking for an education closer to home.?

The campus will feature a 70-acre “green” park focusing on sustainable energy systems and facilities for green and clean technology research, development, training and education.

The curriculum is expected to serve more than 20,000 full and part-time students and will additionally include courses in hospitality, culinary arts, film, media and allied health. Classes are expected to begin in fall 2014.
