Motorcycle Ride To Benefit Fallen Officer

People across the valley continue to reach out to the family of fallen Cathedral City police officer Jermaine Gibson, who was killed during a car chase in March.

The Desert Riders Association held a fundraiser in Gibson’s honor Saturday.

The event drew record attendance according to the group’s president, Ken Fort.

“About 30 minutes after registration had started, I was filled with tears. There was so many people, it was unbelievable,” said Fort.

More than 250 people took a ride around the Coachella Valley to raise money for the family of Officer Gibson.

Vendors sold clothes, jewelry and other items. The event also included a car and motorcycle show.

Stuart’s Steakhouse provided the food.

The event has grown every year, said Fort.

The group holds it in conjunction with National Police Week.

But this year, with the death of Officer Gibson and Palm Springs police dog Ike, law enforcement’s sacrifices really hits home.

“They are all here in full glory to honor the men and women who have died in the line of duty,” said Tami Lowe, a California Highway Patrol officer who rode in the event.

“There’s probably more people other than law enforcement or public safety here to show their support and that truly makes what we do worthwhile,” said Jim Clay, with the Fontana Police Department who also rode in Gibson’s honor.
