Coachella Valley Unified Votes To Fire Superintendent

The Coachella Valley Unified School Board voted to begin termination proceedings against Superintendent Ricardo Medina on Tuesday.

The move follows a review of information, which started Jan. 21, the day Medina and Asst. Superintendent Rick Alvarez were placed on paid administrative leave,

The details of the investigation have not been released.

“I want to make clear that the board’s does not take this action lightly,” said CVUSD School Board President Maria Machuca. “We resolve that this decision is in the best interest of the District and it is in line with our overarching goal of enhancing the educational environment of the District for the benefit of the students we serve.”

The Superintendent employment agreement does allow him to address the board at a later meeting if he wants to. Following that meeting, the board will then, pursuant to the Employment Agreement, determine the final action related to his employment. If no such request is filled, then the action will become final after ten days.
