Deadly Officer Involved Shooting in the High Desert

A man is dead today, after being shot by a deputy in Yucca Valley.

Sunday morning, about 8:50, deputies from the Yucca Valley Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious man at the Park-n-Ride Bus Station located at the corner of Kickapoo Trail and Highway 62. According to the person that called police, the man was acting as if he may be under the influence of drugs. The caller was concerned for the safety of others in the area.

Once deputies arrived, they found and attempted to contact the person. That’s when the man charged one of the deputies, attempting to physically attack him. The deputy tried to subdue the man by deploying his taser gun, but the man grabbed the gun and continued to attack. Fearing for his safety and that of others in the area, the deputy shot the man.

The man, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene. The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail responded and are conducting an investigation on exactly what happened.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect is asked to call police.
