275 Acre Fire Burning Near Apple Valley

San Bernardino County authorities say a 275-acre wildfire in Apple Valley has stopped spreading and homes are no longer in danger.

Bill Peters of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze isn’t officially contained but there’s no flame showing and about 150 firefighters are busy mopping up hot spots.

The blaze erupted shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday and hop-scotched through low grass, yucca plants and desert sage.

Peters says scattered homes in the area were briefly at moderate risk and the fire burned around four of them.

He says an outbuilding and an abandoned RV burned.

There’s no word yet on what caused the blaze.
