Wife Of Former Mayor Sentenced For Robbing Banks

The wife of a former Desert Hot Springs mayor was sentenced to three years probation on Thursday for robbing two banks in Palm Springs.

Carol Jean Bias, 69, was sentenced to 14 days in jail but avoided any more jail time due to the time she’s already served.

Bias, who is the wife of former Desert Hot Springs Mayor Alex Bias, was connected to two February holdups of Bank of America branches in Palm Springs.

In an about-face on Thursday, Bias pleaded guilty to the robberies, and in exchange, prosecutors dismissed two felony burglary counts against her.

In April, Bias was approved by a Riverside County judge for the court’s mental health program. As part of her probation, she will have to complete a mental rehabilitation program recommended by the probation department.

She will also be prohibited from entering either bank she admitted to robbing.
