Twentynine Palms Marine Killed In Action In Afghanistan

Corporal Paul W. Zanowick II, 23, of Miamisburg, Ohio, died June 3 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, officials announced on Monday.

He was an anti-tank missleman assigned to 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Zanowick enlisted in the Marine Corps Jan. 22, 2008. This was his second deployment.

His personal service awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The Marines and sailors of the Combat Center mourn the loss of Cpl. Zanowick. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family.
