Mail Carrier Accused Of Stealing Customers’ Mail

A Palm Springs mail carrier is being investigated for allegedly stealing customers’ mail, an agent with the U.S Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General confirmed today.

Jesus Torres was placed on unpaid administrative leave following a May 18 interview with USPS Office of Inspector General special agents, Regina King said today.

If Torres is found to have stolen mail he was supposed to deliver, he could face criminal charges, King said.

King said she could not comment further on specifics of the case because it remains under investigation.

The USPS Office of Inspector General is an independent agency within the Postal Service that investigates mail theft, King said.

?The American public expects to receive their letters and parcels on time and intact. Citizens have an expectation their mail will not be stolen while in the possession of Postal Service employees. This expectation and trust extends to every one of the millions of mail pieces traveling across the country daily,” said Pacific Area Field Office Special Agent in Charge Nichole Cooper.

If anyone has any additional information or feels they have been a victim of mail theft, you may contact the USPS OIG at 1 888 877 7644 or HOTLINE@uspsoig.gov.
