Family Member Assaulted With Sword In Morning Scuffle, Police Say
A Palm Springs man was arrested on Wednesday morning after police said family members told them he assaulted his mother with a sword.
Police responded to the home on the 3200 block of Sand Spring Drive at around 9:15 a.m. after they received a call about a fight, said spokesperson Rhonda Long.
At the home, officers said they found a woman had been assaulted with a sword, and the man whom family members claimed was behind it had left.
“She had a laceration to her foot requiring some stitches,” said Sgt. Mike Kovaleff with Palm Springs Police.
Officers said they conducted a thorough search of the home and the area without finding him.
They waited two hours before Robert Reyes, 30, returned home.
Reyes was detained at 11:25 a.m., said Long.
His mother suffered injuries that were being treated at a local hospital, and she was expected to survive.
Neighbors say Reyes is mentally ill and sometimes fails to take his medication.
It’s not clear if any charges will be filed against him.
