Man Armed With Gun Subdued By Palm Springs Police Dog

A police dog with the Palm Springs Police Department is credited with helping apprehend a man suspected of threatening someone with a gun on Sunday night.

Police responded to a call for help in the 1100 block of San Lucas Road, just south of East Sunny Dunes Road at 9:30 p.m., said spokeswoman Rhonda Long.

When they arrived at the home, they found a man matching the description given to dispatchers standing outside with what was later determined to be an imitation firearm.

Officers used a K9 officer to bring down the suspect, later identified as Robert Britz, 32, of Palm Springs.

He was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained by the K9, Long said. Britz was then transported to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, where he was booked for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Threats, Brandishing a Replica Firearm, Resisting Arrest and Elder Abuse.
