CHP Issues Travel Advisory For Coachella Valley

California Highway Patrol officers sent out a travel advisory on Tuesday, advising drivers in the Coachella Valley of places they need to avoid after Monday night’s thunderstorms.

Here are the latest closures affecting area streets:

* Adams Street near Highway 111 in La Quinta was shutdown at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday by the La Quinta Police Department, and eventually barricaded off by the Public Works Department.

The road flooded at the wash, near a construction project to build a bridge, which will eventually cross over the street and prevent traffic delays caused by water passing through the area.

Adams is expected to re-open by Wednesday morning, according to police and Steven Queen, the project manager for FTP International.

* SR-177 has also had reported flooding and debris across the roadway between Interstate 10 and SR-62.

* Interstate 10 between Indio and Blythe had reports of very heavy rain and standing water on the roadway in some areas.

* SR 95 from SR 62 to 3.5 miles north (north of Vidal) CLOSED STORM DAMAGE Possibly several days

* SR 111 from SR 195 to Mecca Rd (Salton Sea) OPEN

* SR 62 from Godwin (east of 29 Palms) to Route 95 (Vidal) CLOSED STORM DAMAGE Until further notice – unknown at this time

* SR 177 from I-10 to SR 62 (entire route) CLOSED STORM DAMAGE Possibly several days

* Drivers are advised to slow their speeds before driving through any standing water on the roadway. At 60 MPH, it only takes approximately 1/8th inch of water to cause a vehicle to hydroplane and lose control. Drivers should never cross areas with running water across the roadway and the road is not visible.

* Please drive with regard to wet roadways, always wear your seat belts, and maintain a safe following distance – remembering that it takes longer to stop on a wet road than a dry one.
