Lightning Blamed For Sparking Several Small Fires
Palm Springs and U.S. Forest Service fire crews made quick work putting out a fire near the same area as last weekend’s Windy Point wildfire that scorched 541 acres.
The fire and two others were reported just after 2:30 p.m. northwest of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, according to Palm Springs fire dispatchers.
News Channel 3 viewers and Twitter followers had been calling and sending in pictures of lightning hitting the area around the same time.
The U.S. Forest Service reported they had a full response heading toward the Windy Point area with four engines.
The small fire was put out quickly; however, while the other two were extinguished by the rain falling in the area.
No one was injured.
