Prep Hoops: Palm Desert Ends Palm Springs Run of Dominance in DVL

The Palm Desert boys basketball team finally got the monkey off their back. The Aztecs beat the dominant force in the Desert Valley League, Palm Springs, by a final score of 57-52 Wednesday night. The victory is the first time the Aztecs knocked off their cross town rival in over three years. The Indians on the other hand, watched a 39 game win streak in the Desert Valley league come to an end in front of a large crowd in their home gym.

Senior Jonathan Serven put together an impressive 24 point performance including a few clutch shots down the stretch to secure the victory for the Aztecs. He led all scorers. Serven also got help from senior big man Robert Romero. The Indians struggled to stop Romero who scored 23 points. Palm Springs played without their big man Jordan White, who is away competing in a high school football all-star game.

The Aztecs pulled away with the help of several second chance opportunities from offensive rebounds.

Palm Desert plays next at Xavier Prep on Friday, while the schedule doesn’t get any easier for Palm Springs–they face Gahr in the Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase in Cerritos.
