Prep Basketball Recaps – 1/13/2012
High School Basketball Scores from Friday, January 12, 2012:
BOYS:
PALM DESERT 63, Xavier Prep 36
The Aztecs started a bit slow in the wake of Wednesday’s big win at Palm Springs, but turned things around quickly en route to a blowout win over the Saints. Palm Desert (5-0) remains alone in first place of the Desert Valley League. Robert Romero had another solid game for the Aztecs on the offensive side of the ball. P.D.H.S. won three games this week. The most crucial coming against four-time reigning DVL champion Palm Springs (57-52). Expect the Aztecs to contend for the No. 1 ranking in the C.I.F. Division 3AAA poll when it’s released early next week.
LA QUINTA 67, Indio 53
The Blackhawks used another superlative performance from Nathan Hill (KESQ Game Changer) to clinch a solid road win at Indio. With the game tied at 42 after three quarters, the Blackhawks went on a 9-1 run to open the period and never slowed down. La Quinta (3-1) is now tied with Palm Springs (3-1) for second place in the Desert Valley League standings.
Cat City 65, COACHELLA VALLEY 68
The Arabs moved in to the DVL’s no. 4 spot after a hard-fought home win against Cathedral City. Coachella (3-2) remains a half-game back of La Quinta and Palm Springs in the league standings. The Arabs can make a serious move in the standings with a home win over La Quinta next Tuesday.
GIRLS:
Xavier Prep 9, PALM DESERT 50
The Aztecs unleashed an offensive assault on the largerly overmatched Saints. Palm Desert (10-4, 2-2) can ill afford another league loss if they want to finish in the DVL’s top 3. The Aztecs host Cathedral City next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
INDIO 64, La Quinta 41
The Rajahs have won seven straight overall and continue their dominance of the Desert Valley League. Indio (5-0) has won every DVL game by double digits. Mark your calendars for January 25th when the Rajahs play at Palm Springs — in what looks like their biggest road block to completing a perfect league season.
