Highway 111 Back Open In Indio After Morning Crash
A car crashed into a power pole early Friday morning, knocking some powerlines onto Highway 111, according to Indio police.
It happened around 5:35 a.m., when a driver heading westbound on Highway 111 swerved to avoid something in the road and struck a powerpole near Shields Road, said Ben Guitron with the Indio Police.
The crash damaged the pole and knocked some powerlines into the roadway.
The driver was not hurt, according to Guitron.
Officers closed all lanes on Highway 111 from Madison to Jefferson, so Imperial Irrigation District workers could make the needed repairs.
They have since reopened lanes in both direction. All eastbound lanes are open. One westbound lane is closed, but only near the area where the crash happened.
No word on any power outages because of the downed lines.
Drivers are advised to use Avenue 48, Miles, or Fred Waring to get around the problem area.
