Taggers Caught Red-Handed In Cathedral City

Some taggers were caught in the act by an off-duty police supervisor, and officers arrested four juveniles spraying graffiti in a Cathedral City neighborhood, a police sergeant said Saturday.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday, the supervisor called in that four boys were spraying paint near San Toro Road and McCallum Drive.

The unnamed officer detained the youths, about 13 or 14 years old, until on-duty officers arrived, said police Sgt. Corwin de Veas.

“All four subjects were taken into custody without incident when uniformed officers finally arrived,” de Veas said. “The juveniles were still in possession of a backpack filled with spray cans at the time of their arrests. They were booked and later released to their parents.”

The sergeant said that the area where the boys were caught had been vandalized with graffiti several times in recent weeks.

The graffiti has since been painted over.
