Skydiver Dies After Crashing Into Ground

A San Diego skydiver and instructor was killed Saturday when he crashed to the ground during a competition at the Perris Valley Skydiving facility in Perris, according to the coroner’s office.

Sean Carey, 35, was performing a solo maneuver when he hit the ground at about 9:10 a.m., said a sheriff’s department spokesman.

He was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where the coroner pronounced him dead of his injuries at 9:52 a.m.

A woman who answered the phone at Perris Valley Skydiving refused to comment about Carey’s death.

Carey was featured in a number of skydiving videos on the Internet.

It was the sixth fatality at the Perris Valley facility since the start of 2011, according to The Press-Enterprise.

In December, an experienced 32-year-old Canadian skydiver died from a hard landing at Perris Valley.

Earlier last year, four people died and one person was seriously injured in three separate skydiving incidents at the airport.
