Coachella Valley investors learn impact, importance of the arts

Local investors were center stage at the Valley’s first “Creative Summit” Tuesday.

While sitting on stage at the McCallum Theater, donors learned that the arts are one of four main economic sectors in the valley.

In between creative acts, members of the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, and ArtOasis, presented a new study on creative arts in the Valley.
The study, Creative California Desert Study, claims that film, art, architechture, and other creative outlets create revenue.

Deborah Shwartz, Public Art Coordinator for the City of Palm Desert, works directly with the creative artwork you see on El Paseo.

“Locally, people come into town to see the art work, to come to the McCallum, the art work on El Paseo, to the the galleries here; they make a big impact,” Shwartz said. “It’s a serious economic driver.”

According to the CVEP, the study is being used to help strengthen existing business and organizations, attract new creative enterprises, broaden the job base, and expand tourism.
You can view the impact of the arts on our local economy by reading a sumamry of that study at ArtsOasis.org.
