Palm Desert City Council Salaries Are Called Into Question

The Palm Desert City Council Compensation Ad Hoc Citizens Committee held its first meeting Wednesday afternoon.

The committee will determine the future salary of Council members who are currently the highest paid in the Valley, making more than $44,000 a year.

The Council voted to form the Committeein order to avoid voting on its own salaries.

“It’s a difficult decision to make, and the Council wants to look like they’re coming to work with clean hands and they had nothing do with the decision that’s being made, and I respect them for that,” said Dale Gribow, a member of the Citizens Committee.

Gribow added that he believes it will take several meetings before the Citizens Committee determines if the Council’s current pay is justified or should be adjusted.
