Company moves from Utah to Coachella Valley; hiring new workers

You’ll more likely hear about businesses leaving California instead of moving in.

But the sweet smell of success has brought a new company to the Coachella Valley.

For Every Home is a fragrance company started in Utah by Paul and Becky Anderson back in 2008.

They sell candles, oils and dozens of other products.

As their business thrived in Utah, the Andersons had a decision to make.

“We knew if we stayed there it would grow to the point that we would be stuck there and we love the weather here,” said Becky Anderson.

Along with the lure of year-round sunshine, the Andersons were also able to take advantage of enterprise zone tax breaks.

In March, they moved into a building on Fleming Way in Indio. But only a handful of employees in Utah decided to relocate themselves.

That was good news for recent hires like Nicole Giron, a Palm Springs resident and single mom who’d been jobless for nearly six months.

“Once I got a job I was like “yay!” It’s a blessing to actually be working and to be working for this company,” said Giron.

“We’ve felt like we could create a pool of people — employees — that would have a great attitude and we could build a culture we want to build here,” said Paul Anderson.

The owners say they’re proud their company is “green” — with all their environmentally friendly ingredients and packaging materials which are 100 percent recycled.

“We were a green company long before green was cool. It’s just something we’ve hung our hat on,” said Anderson.

As the factory gets set up, workers are rushing to mix, pour, and ship the goods.

They’ll soon have extra help. More than a hundred new employees are expected to be hired within a year.
