Albertsons’ Layoffs Announced

Albertsons’ Fullerton-based Southern California Division has just announced that the grocery chain plans to reduce its in-store workforce.

The store chain says 2,200 to 2,500 positions, affecting all 247 stores in California and Nevada are on the line.

The layoffs will begin the week of June 17.

Albertsons officials said Wednesday that some employees will be laid off at every store.

They would not say if any stores would close or if there would be additional rounds of layoffs.

According to Albertsons’ website there are only 4 store locations in the Coachella Valley.

Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage each have one store location.

There are two locations in the city of Palm Desert.

Albertsons Southern California President Dan Sanders says the company downsized in February at its Fullerton store support center but the need for further changes was clear.

Officials say Albertsons has experienced a decrease in customers and sales.
