Police arrest suspect after van crash near freeway

A suspect is in custody but not before crashing a stolen van on a valley freeway off-ramp.

According to Indio Police Spokesperson Ben Guitron, the chase began around 2:40pm Thursday afternoon.

A patrol officer in the area noticed a white 2006 Ford van run a stop light at Golf Center Parkway and Indian Springs near Fantasy Springs Casino.

The officer tried to pull the driver over, but he failed to stop.

The chase ended when the driver of the van lost control of the vehicle on the Jackson Street off-ramp, crashing down the embankment near the Super Target store.

The suspect then tried to escape on foot and even tried to steal another car from a shopper says Guitron.

The suspect was then taken into custody a short time later.

Guitron also said the van was reported stolen earlier that day.

Nobody was hurt during the chase or arrest.

The suspect’s name has still not been released.
